In 2021, the International Festival of Opera Seria BAYREUTH BAROQUE will take place for the second time from 01-14 September. In addition to the revival of Nicola Porpora's "Carlo il Calvo", another opera by Porpora will bring the theatre jewel of Margravine Wilhelmine to Bayreuth. The artistic director of the festival, director and countertenor Max Emanuel Cencic, will also, we can reveal, be seen in a leading role in this opera. The musical direction will be taken over by George Petrou with Armonia Atenea.

The festival Bayreuth Baroque is particularly pleased to present world-renowned stars on three concert evenings: Countertenor Franco Fagioli will give a taste of his virtuoso vocal artistry with arias by the Porpora antipode Leonardo Vinci together with Armonia Atenea, conducted by George Petrou. Under the title "Anima Aeterna", countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński goes in search of Baroque aria gems together with the ensemble Il Pomo d'Oro conducted by Francesco Corti. Soprano Simone Kermes sings "Canzonetta d'amore" accompanied by the Amici Veneziani.

The complete programme for this year's edition of the festival will be announced at the end of June. The ticket sales will also start then.

Bayreuth Baroque 2020 took place for the first time with great success. Due to the hygiene measures in force in Bavaria, only 200 spectators at a time were allowed to experience the performances live and on site. There were over 500,000 direct views in the online edition of the Festival and in the media library of Bayerischer Rundfunk, and Mezzo TV broadcast to 70 million households worldwide. The artistic director of the Festival Max Emanuel Cencic was awarded the Honorary Prize of the German Record Critics for his artistic work in March.
